From Planet Ghostbusters on Twitter comes the first official photo from the new “Ghostbusters” movie coming next summer. I think it looks pretty rad.

Admittedly, it helps that Kate McKinnon’s hair kinda-sorta looks like an updated version of Egon’s from “The Real Ghostbusters” cartoon, of which I was a huge fan, so that does add a bonus layer of nostalgia to the whole thing for me.

Two quick thoughts about this movie, though:

  1. Anyone who refers to this “Ghostbusters” as “the all-female ‘Ghostbusters’” is a damn idiot. Unless we’re going to start referring to the original “Ghostbusters” as “the all-male ‘Ghostbusters’”, and “Ghostbusters II” as “the not-as-good-as-we-all-like-to-pretend-it-is ‘Ghostbusters’”, the distinction of the gender of the individuals performing the busting of the assorted ghosts is about as important as the gender of Slimer which, unless you have some really weird sexual kinks, is not freakin’ important at all.
  2. I am really, really, really hoping that Melissa McCarthy isn’t playing the same loud, obnoxious, idiotic character she seems to play in every movie she’s in. Hers was the only casting announcement that made me nervous, and I’d be stupid levels of happy to be wrong about it.
